If you really want the job, follow up an emailed cover letter and resume with a hard copy in the mail to give you another chance for exposure. Include a cover letter in the hard copy also, and include, "I recently emailed you my resume and I'm following up with this hard copy." For formatting, stick to left-justified headers and four-inch wide text lines in your paragraphs. The address you're mailing to may have a small email page format that will awkwardly wrap text around the screen. Many email systems cannot handle text enhancements like bolding, bulleting, or underlining, so play it safe by using CAPITAL LETTERS -- or dashes -- if you need to make an emphasis.

Mr. William Smith, Principal
Anywhere High School School
Anywhere, VA 00000-0000

Dear Ms. Smith:

I am writing this letter to apply for a student teaching position beginning in September.  I am currently enrolled in the Master's In Education Program (with Initial Teacher Licensure) at Shenandoah University.  I will graduate in January of 2025.

Last semester I completed many hours of observation at Anywhere High School under the guidance of Mrs. Jane Jones.  Currently, I am substitute teaching regularly at Anywhere High School.

The subject I am most interested in teaching is Technology.  I am currently working toward being certified to teach Technology in grades 6 through 12.

I have chosen to apply to Anywhere High School because I have seen first hand what a unique school it really is.  All of my interaction with the staff and students has been positive.  This has allowed me to gain more experience and confidence in an academic atmosphere.

My resume and application are attached.  If you have any further questions, please feel free to call me at (123) 456-7891.

Sincerely,

Jane A. Student
